This set of three stamps commemorates the return of Vilnius to Lithuania in 1939. The designs feature the historic Trakai Castle, a panoramic view of the city of Vilnius, and a portrait of Grand Duke Gediminas, the legendary founder of Vilnius.

Issued in 1940, these stamps celebrate the reincorporation of Vilnius, Lithuania's historical capital, into the Lithuanian state after its return from Poland in October 1939. Grand Duke Gediminas, depicted on one stamp, is revered as the founder of Vilnius in the 14th century.
