Laos Postage Due Stamp, 1952
Laos · 1952 · 10k
This is the first postage due stamp issued by the Kingdom of Laos. The design features a large numeral '10' indicating the value in kip, surrounded by ornate scrollwork. The text 'TIMBRE-TAXE' at the top and 'ROYAUME DU LAOS' at the bottom clearly identify its purpose and origin.
Issued shortly after Laos gained autonomy within the French Union in 1949, this stamp represents the establishment of its independent postal administration. Postage due stamps were used to collect payment from the recipient for mail with insufficient postage.
