Laos Postage Due Stamp
Laos · 1952 · 100 K
This is the first postage due stamp issued by the Kingdom of Laos. The design is purely functional, featuring the large numeral '100' indicating the amount due, surrounded by an ornate frame. The text 'ROYAUME DU LAOS' (Kingdom of Laos) and 'TIMBRE-TAXE' (Tax Stamp) clearly state its origin and purpose.
Issued shortly after Laos gained autonomy within the French Union in 1949, this stamp represents the establishment of its independent postal administration. Postage due stamps were used to collect payment from the recipient for mail sent with insufficient postage.
