Laos Postage Due Stamp, Red and Black

Laos · 1952 · 10 K

This is the first postage due stamp issued by the Kingdom of Laos. The design features the denomination '10 K' (10 Kip) prominently in the center, framed by ornate patterns. The inscriptions 'POSTES LAO' and 'TIMBRE-TAXE' indicate its function as a tax stamp for mail with insufficient postage.

Issued in 1952, this stamp marks the period shortly after Laos gained autonomy within the French Union in 1949, as it began to establish its own independent postal services.
