Laos 1951 First Postage Stamp, King Sisavang Vong

Laos · 1951 · 10c

This is the first postage stamp ever issued by the Kingdom of Laos. The design features a portrait of King Sisavang Vong, the first and only king of a unified Laos, facing right. The stamp is inscribed 'ROYAUME DU LAOS' and 'POSTES' in French, reflecting the country's status within the French Union at the time.

Issued in 1951, this stamp marks Laos's philatelic independence as an associated state within the French Union, shortly before gaining full independence in 1953.
