Laos, 1952, King Sisavang Vong, First Definitive Series
Laos · 1952 · 10 Cents
This stamp features a portrait of King Sisavang Vong, the last king of Luang Phrabang and the first king of a unified Laos. The design is framed by traditional Laotian motifs, with the denomination '10c' and the country name 'ROYAUME DU LAOS' inscribed. It was part of the first definitive series issued by the newly independent Kingdom of Laos.
Issued shortly after Laos gained independence from France in 1949, this series established a new national philatelic identity, replacing the stamps of French Indochina.
