South Korea (North Korean Occupation) Postage Stamps
South Korea · 1950 · Various (50w, 100w)
This set of two stamps was issued by North Korea for use in the southern territories it occupied during the Korean War. The designs feature a worker with a hammer and a farmer with a sickle, both common communist and socialist realist motifs. The stamps are inscribed in Chosŏn'gŭl and denominated in won.
Issued in September 1950 during the brief North Korean occupation of South Korea at the beginning of the Korean War, these stamps had a very short period of valid use before UN forces pushed the North Koreans back.
