South Korea 1946 First Liberation Commemorative
South Korea · 1946 · 50 Chon
This stamp commemorates the first anniversary of the liberation of Korea from Japanese rule. The design prominently features a map of the Korean peninsula, flanked by the Taegukgi (South Korean flag) on the left and the Rose of Sharon (Mugunghwa), the national flower, on the right. The denomination of 50 Chon is printed at the bottom.
Issued just one year after the end of World War II and the subsequent liberation, this stamp is a powerful symbol of newly regained Korean sovereignty and national pride. It was part of the first commemorative set issued by the US Army Military Government in Korea.
