This set of five stamps commemorates Cambodia's newly won independence from France. The designs feature a portrait of King Norodom Sihanouk, a map of Cambodia with its flag, and symbolic imagery representing the proclamation of independence. The stamps are inscribed "INDEPENDANCE DU CAMBODGE 9 NOVEMBRE 1953".

Issued to celebrate the end of the French protectorate and the establishment of the Kingdom of Cambodia as a fully sovereign state on November 9, 1953, under King Norodom Sihanouk.
