Cambodia State Emblem, Provisional Issue
Cambodia · 1990 · 50 Riel
This provisional stamp features the state emblem of Cambodia, which includes two ceremonial bowls (phan) stacked on top of each other with a sacred sword and the Om symbol above. The emblem is flanked by two royal five-tiered umbrellas and is set against a blue background. The original stamp was overprinted in black with a new denomination of '50' and the country name in Khmer script.
Issued in 1990 during a transitional period for the State of Cambodia, this stamp is a provisional overprint on an earlier definitive issue. Such overprints were common during times of political change and currency revaluation to quickly meet postal needs.
