Kenya, Uganda & Tanganyika 1954 Queen Elizabeth II Definitive
Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika · 1954 · 5c
This definitive stamp features a portrait of the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II, facing right, based on a photograph by Dorothy Wilding. The design is framed by a simple border with the country name 'KENYA UGANDA TANGANYIKA' at the top and the denomination at the bottom. This was part of the first definitive series issued for the combined territories during her reign.
Issued shortly after Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953, this series replaced the previous King George VI definitives and was used throughout the East African Postal Union until the individual countries gained independence.
