This stamp commemorates Kenya's independence, achieved on December 12, 1963. The design prominently features a map of Kenya, the new national flag, and a flaming torch, a symbol of freedom and hope. Issued to mark the end of British colonial rule, this was the very first postage stamp released by the newly independent nation of Kenya. It symbolizes the country's transition to self-governance under its first Prime Minister, Jomo Kenyatta.
