This set of three stamps commemorates the 10th anniversary of independence for Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Each stamp features the national flag and coat of arms of one of the countries, superimposed over a map of the respective nation. The designs celebrate national sovereignty and the shared history of the East African Community.

Issued in 1973, these stamps mark a decade since the three nations gained independence from British rule in the early 1960s. They were issued jointly under the East African Posts and Telecommunications Corporation, which served all three countries until its dissolution in 1977.
