This set of four stamps commemorates the 10th anniversary of the independence of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Each stamp features the national flag and coat of arms of one of the three nations, with the fourth stamp displaying a map of all three countries together, symbolizing their shared history and cooperation within the East African Community.

Issued in 1973, these stamps celebrate a decade of self-governance for the three East African nations, which had previously been under British colonial rule. The joint issue reflects the period of cooperation through the East African Posts and Telecommunications Corporation.
