King George V Definitives

Kenya · 1912 · 1c

This definitive stamp features a three-quarter profile portrait of King George V, facing left, set within an ornate oval frame. The design, known as the 'Mackennal' profile, was common across the British Empire during this period. The country name 'EAST AFRICA AND UGANDA PROTECTORATES' is inscribed at the top, with the denomination at the bottom.

Issued for the East Africa and Uganda Protectorates, this stamp represents the early period of British colonial administration in the region, which would later become Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. It was one of the first issues to bear the portrait of King George V following his accession to the throne in 1910.
