Jamaica 5 Pence Imperforate Plate Proof

Jamaica · 1860 · 5 Pence

This is an imperforate plate proof of Jamaica's first postage stamp design. It features a diademed portrait of a young Queen Victoria, facing left, set within an ornate octagonal frame. The design, engraved by Perkins Bacon & Co., is a classic example of British colonial philately.

Issued during the British colonial period, this design was part of the first series of postage stamps for Jamaica, replacing the use of British stamps on the island. These proofs were created to check the quality of the printing plates before the main production run.
