This stamp features the Papal Arms, consisting of the crossed Keys of Saint Peter surmounted by the Papal Tiara. The denomination '20 CENT.' is inscribed at the bottom, with 'FRANCO BOLLO POSTALE' (Postage Stamp) surrounding the central design. This was part of the first series of stamps from the Papal States to be denominated in the Italian Lira currency system.
Issued in 1867, this stamp represents the final years of the Papal States' temporal power before their annexation into the newly unified Kingdom of Italy in 1870.
