This stamp, part of the Brescia issue, features a design with fasces, the symbol of Italian Fascism. It was issued by the Italian Social Republic (Repubblica Sociale Italiana, or RSI), a German puppet state led by Mussolini after he was rescued from imprisonment.
Issued during the final chaotic years of World War II in Northern Italy, these stamps represent the last gasp of Mussolini's fascist regime before its collapse in 1945.
