Italian Social Republic, Definitive Issue, 1944

Italy · 1944 · 25c

This definitive stamp features a design of the Monument to the Fallen in Brescia. It was issued by the Italian Social Republic (Repubblica Sociale Italiana, or RSI), a German puppet state led by Mussolini after the Kingdom of Italy surrendered to the Allies. The stamp is inscribed "POSTE ITALIANE" and "REPUBBLICA SOCIALE ITALIANA".

Issued during the final chaotic years of World War II in Italy, these stamps represent the short-lived fascist republic established in northern Italy under German occupation.
