Iceland 1873 2 Skilling Numeral Issue
Iceland · 1873 · 2 Skilling
This is the first postage stamp issued by Iceland. The design is typographed, featuring the denomination '2' within a central oval, surrounded by ornate scrollwork and topped with a crown. The inscription 'ÍSLAND' appears at the top, with 'SK.' (for Skilling) flanking the numeral.
Issued while Iceland was under Danish rule, this stamp marked the beginning of Iceland's independent postal system. The Skilling currency was replaced by the Aurar and Króna just a few years later in 1876.
