Return of the Shah (Set of 3)
Iran · 1954 · 5R, 10R, 2R
This set of three stamps commemorates the return of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, to power. The designs feature a man holding the Iranian flag, a hand grasping a flaming torch against the flag, and a hand casting a ballot with a crown, all bearing the inscription 'Fidelite au Roi' (Fidelity to the King).
These stamps were issued to celebrate the 1953 Iranian coup d'état, which saw the overthrow of Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh and the restoration of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi to the throne after a brief period of exile, solidifying his monarchical rule.
