Iraq 1960 Army Day
Iraq · 1960 · 10f & 30f
This set of two stamps commemorates the second anniversary of Army Day following the 1958 revolution. The 10 fils stamp depicts a soldier with a rifle, while the 30 fils stamp shows a soldier holding the Iraqi flag. Both designs celebrate the role of the military in the new republic.
Issued two years after the 14 July Revolution which overthrew the Hashemite monarchy, these stamps were part of the new republic's efforts to establish a national identity centered around its military strength and revolutionary origins.
