Queen Victoria, East India Postage

India · 1854 · ½ Anna

This stamp features a diademed portrait of a young Queen Victoria facing left, set within an ornamental rectangular frame. The inscription "EAST INDIA POSTAGE" appears at the top, with the denomination "HALF ANNA" at the bottom. This was the first stamp issued for use throughout British India.

Issued in 1854, this stamp marks the beginning of a standardized postal system across the territories controlled by the British East India Company, replacing various regional systems.
