Queen Victoria Half Anna Red
India · 1854 · 1/2 Anna
This stamp features a left-facing diademed bust of Queen Victoria, designed by Captain H. L. Thuillier. It is one of India's first postage stamps, printed in Calcutta using lithography. The design is simple, with 'INDIA' inscribed at the top and 'HALF ANNA' at the bottom, set within an ornamental frame.
Issued in 1854, this was among the first stamps produced in India, marking a significant step in the development of the subcontinent's postal system under British rule. These stamps replaced the earlier Scinde Dawk issues and standardized postage across the territories.
