Israel 1948 Doar Ivri First Coins

Israel · 1948 · 3m, 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m, 50m, 250m, 500m, 1000m

This set, known as 'Doar Ivri' (Hebrew Post), represents the very first postage stamps issued by the state of Israel. The designs feature ancient Hebrew coins from the First and Second Jewish Revolts against Rome, symbolizing the nation's renewed sovereignty and connection to its ancient past. The stamps were printed secretly before the state's declaration and lack the country's name, as it had not yet been decided.

Issued just two days after Israel's Declaration of Independence on May 14, 1948, these stamps were a crucial part of establishing the new state's postal service amidst the ongoing War of Independence.
