Israel Postage Due Stamp, First Series
Israel · 1948 · 3 m.
This is one of Israel's first postage due stamps, issued shortly after the state's declaration of independence. The design is purely typographic, featuring the denomination '3' and the Hebrew word 'Pruta' in the center, framed by decorative elements. The inscription at the bottom reads 'Doar Ivri' (Hebrew Post), which was used on the very first stamps of Israel before the country's name was officially adopted for postal use.
Issued in the turbulent year of 1948, this stamp represents the nascent postal system of the newly established State of Israel during the Arab-Israeli War.
