This set, known as 'Doar Ivri' (Hebrew Post), features ancient Jewish coins from the First Jewish-Roman War and the Bar Kokhba revolt. The designs symbolize the newly re-established Jewish sovereignty. Each stamp includes a tab below the design with the inscription 'Doar Ivri' in Hebrew.
Issued in May 1948, these were the first postage stamps of the newly declared State of Israel, printed secretly before the state's establishment and released just two days after its declaration of independence.
