Israel Doar Ivri 15m, Perforation on Ungummed Side
Israel · 1948 · 15m
This stamp is from the first series issued by the state of Israel, known as 'Doar Ivri' (Hebrew Post). The design features an ancient Judean coin from the period of the First Jewish Revolt against Rome (66-70 CE), depicting a lulav (palm branch) flanked by two etrogs (citrons). This particular stamp is a notable variety where the perforations were mistakenly applied to the ungummed, printed side of the sheet.
Issued in May 1948, the Doar Ivri series marks the establishment of Israel's postal service immediately following its declaration of independence. The use of ancient coin motifs symbolized the revival of Jewish sovereignty in the historic homeland.
