Israel Doar Ivri First Definitive Series - 3 mil

Israel · 1948 · 3 mil

This stamp is the first in the inaugural 'Doar Ivri' (Hebrew Post) series, issued on the first business day after Israel's Declaration of Independence. The design features an ancient Judean coin from the First Jewish-Roman War (66-73 CE), depicting a chalice and inscribed 'Shekel Israel'. The tabs below the stamp are inscribed 'Doar Ivri' in Hebrew.

Issued in May 1948, this stamp marks the establishment of the State of Israel and the revival of a sovereign Hebrew postal service after nearly two millennia. The use of ancient coin motifs symbolized the new state's connection to its ancient Jewish roots.
