Doar Ivri (Hebrew Post) First Definitive Series
Israel · 1948 · 3m - 1000m
This is the first postage stamp series issued by the state of Israel, known as Doar Ivri (Hebrew Post). The designs feature ancient Jewish coins from the First Jewish-Roman War and the Bar Kokhba revolt, symbolizing the renewal of Jewish sovereignty. Each stamp has a tab (tête-bêche) at the bottom inscribed in Hebrew with a reference to the coin's origin.
Issued on May 16, 1948, just two days after Israel's Declaration of Independence, these stamps were prepared in secret by the transitional government and represent a foundational moment in the nation's postal history.
