Ireland 1970 Decimal Definitive Series
Ireland · 1970 · Various (1p to 10p)
This definitive series features designs inspired by early Irish art, depicting various animals significant to Irish culture and history. The set includes stylized representations of a salmon, Irish wolfhound, bull, and various birds, all rendered in a distinctive, modern style based on ancient Celtic motifs. The designs were created by a team of Irish artists to mark the country's transition to decimal currency.
Issued in anticipation of Decimal Day (15 February 1971), this series was Ireland's first set of definitive stamps in the new decimal currency, replacing the long-running Gerl-designed series.
