Ireland 1922-37 Definitive Series, Saorstát Éireann Overprint
Ireland · 1922 · Various
This series consists of contemporary British stamps of King George V overprinted in Gaelic script to validate them for use in the newly established Irish Free State (Saorstát Éireann). The overprint, applied in five lines, was a provisional measure until Ireland could produce its own unique postage stamps. The set includes various denominations and colors from the widely used British definitive series of the era.
Issued following the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921, these overprinted stamps represent a critical transitional period, marking the establishment of the Irish Free State and its postal independence from the United Kingdom.
