Indonesia Republic 1947-1949 Revolutionary Period Stamps
Indonesia · 1947 · Various
This series of stamps was issued by the Republic of Indonesia during its struggle for independence from Dutch colonial rule. The designs are typically simple, often featuring nationalist symbols, portraits of revolutionary figures, or allegorical representations of the fight for freedom. Due to the turbulent conditions, they were often crudely printed on various types of paper.
These stamps were issued between the proclamation of Indonesian independence in 1945 and the final transfer of sovereignty in 1949, a period known as the Indonesian National Revolution. They served as a symbol of republican sovereignty in the face of Dutch efforts to re-establish control.
