Issued in 1948, this stamp represents the Dutch attempt to reassert colonial control over the Indonesian archipelago after the Japanese occupation and the Indonesian Declaration of Independence in 1945. It was part of the first series issued for the newly formed United States of Indonesia, a short-lived federal republic.
