Hungary First Postage Stamp, 1871
Hungary · 1871 · 2 krajczár
The first postage stamp of Hungary, issued in 1871, features a portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph I in profile, facing right. The design is framed by the Hungarian Crown of Saint Stephen at the top and the denomination '2' within circles at the bottom corners, with the currency 'KR' (krajczár) indicated. This issue marked Hungary's postal independence within the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Following the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, Hungary gained more autonomy, leading to the establishment of its own independent postal service and the issuance of its first stamps in 1871.
