Croatia NDH Šibenik Provisional Overprint
Croatia · 1943 · 3.50 Kn on 2 L
This is a provisional issue from the Italian occupation zone of Šibenik, created after the capitulation of Italy in September 1943. The stamp is a definitive from the Kingdom of Italy, overprinted in black with the coat of arms of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), the new country name 'NEZAVISNA DRŽAVA HRVATSKA', and a new denomination of '3.50 Kn'.
Following Italy's surrender to the Allies in WWII, German forces occupied former Italian territories, including parts of Croatia. The NDH administration issued these overprinted stamps for local use in Šibenik before regular Croatian issues were available.
