This was the first definitive series issued by the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) during World War II. The set features various Croatian landscapes, cityscapes, and historical sites, such as Zagreb Cathedral, the Plitvice Lakes, and the city of Dubrovnik. The designs aimed to promote a sense of national identity and heritage for the newly established state.

Issued shortly after the establishment of the Independent State of Croatia, a puppet state of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, these stamps represent the new political entity's attempt to assert its sovereignty through philatelic means.
