Croatia 1941 0.25k Banovina Issue Overprinted 'NEZAVISNA DRŽAVA HRVATSKA'
Croatia · 1941 · 0.25k
This stamp is an overprint on the 1939 Banovina of Croatia issue, which originally depicted the Croatian coat of arms. The black overprint reads 'NEZAVISNA DRŽAVA HRVATSKA' (Independent State of Croatia) and covers the original 'KRALJEVINA JUGOSLAVIJA' (Kingdom of Yugoslavia) inscription. This was one of the first stamps issued by the new collaborationist state established during World War II.
Issued shortly after the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia in April 1941, this overprinted stamp marks the establishment of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), a puppet state of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.
