Croatia 1941-42 King Tomislav, Queen Jelena, and King Petar Krešimir IV Imperforate Essays

Croatia · 1941 · 25b, 50b, 1k

This is a set of three imperforate essays from the first definitive series of the Independent State of Croatia. The designs feature prominent historical Croatian rulers: King Tomislav on the 25 Banica, Queen Jelena on the 50 Banica, and King Petar Krešimir IV on the 1 Kuna. These essays showcase the unissued designs in their final colors before the addition of perforations for the official postage stamps.

Issued by the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), a World War II puppet state of Germany and Italy, these stamps were part of an effort to establish a distinct national identity by celebrating medieval Croatian monarchs.
