Greece 1875 Postage Due Stamps (Green & Red)
Greece · 1875 · Various (1 Lepton to 1 Drachma)
This series of postage due stamps features a simple, functional typographic design. The denomination is prominently displayed within a rectangular frame, with the word 'ΕΙΣΠΡΑΚΤΕΟΝ' (To be collected) at the top and the value in words at the bottom. The stamps were printed in green, with the value overprinted in red.
Issued in 1875, these were the first postage due stamps of Greece, created to collect payment for mail with insufficient postage. Their utilitarian design reflects their purely functional purpose within the postal system of the time.
