Greece · 1961 · 20 lepta, 30 lepta, 50 lepta, 1 drachma, 2.50 drachmae, 4.50 drachmae, 6 drachmae
This set of seven stamps was issued as part of the annual Europa series, a joint issue among members of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT). The common design for 1961, created by Finnish artist Pentti Rahikainen, features a stylized flock of 19 doves forming a single, larger dove, symbolizing unity and peace among the member nations. Each stamp in the set features this design in a different color and denomination.
Issued during a period of growing European integration, the Europa stamps promoted a sense of shared identity and cooperation. The 1961 design, with its powerful symbolism of peace, reflected the post-war aspirations for a united and harmonious continent.
