Greece King George I Essays, Set of 8
Greece · 1896 · Various (1L, 2L, 5L, 10L, 20L, 25L, 40L, 50L)
This is a set of eight unadopted essays prepared for a definitive series featuring King George I of Greece. The designs, printed by Perkins, Bacon & Co. in London, showcase a portrait of the monarch within an ornate frame, with different color combinations for each of the proposed denominations from 1 Lepton to 50 Lepta.
These essays were created in preparation for a new definitive stamp series in 1896, but the designs were ultimately not chosen for the final issued stamps, making them an interesting part of Greece's philatelic history.
