Dedeagatch French Post Office Overprint on Bulgarian Stamp

Dedeagatch (French Post Office) · 1913 · 5 Stotinki

This stamp is a Bulgarian definitive issue featuring Tsar Ferdinand I, overprinted in black with 'DEDEAGH' and the French currency value '05'. It was issued for use in the French post office in Dedeagatch (now Alexandroupoli) during the Second Balkan War.

Following the Second Balkan War in 1913, the city of Dedeagatch was occupied by various forces. The French established a post office and overprinted existing Bulgarian stamps for provisional use before the territory was formally ceded to Greece.
