Queen Victoria, Gold Coast 1875 Definitive

Gold Coast · 1875 · 1d

This definitive stamp features a left-facing profile portrait of Queen Victoria, based on the 'Chalon Head' design by Alfred Edward Chalon. The monarch's portrait is framed within an octagonal border, with the inscription 'GOLD COAST' at the top and 'POSTAGE' at the bottom. The denomination 'ONE PENNY' is indicated in tablets on the left and right sides.

Issued in 1875, this was the first postage stamp of the British Crown Colony of the Gold Coast. It marked the establishment of a formal postal system following the consolidation of British control in the region.
