King George VI British Military Administration Tripolitania 10 Lire Overprint
Tripolitania (British Administration) · 1950 · 10 Lire
A definitive stamp featuring a portrait of King George VI, originally a 10 Shillings value, overprinted 'B.M.A. TRIPOLITANIA' and '10 LIRE'. This overprint converted the original British denomination to the new Italian Lira currency for use in the British Military Administration territory.
Following World War II, Tripolitania, formerly an Italian colony, was placed under British Military Administration from 1943 to 1951, before becoming part of independent Libya. These overprinted stamps were issued to facilitate postal services during this transitional period.
