Great Britain King George V 'Mackennal' Definitive Set
uncommon1900-1945

Great Britain King George V 'Mackennal' Definitive Set

United Kingdom · 1912 · ½d to 1s

This definitive series features the iconic left-facing three-quarter profile portrait of King George V, designed by Australian sculptor Bertram Mackennal. The design, often called the 'Mackennal Head', was a departure from the previous full-face portraits of British monarchs and became a standard for his reign. The set includes various denominations from a halfpenny to one shilling, each distinguished by its color.

Issued shortly after King George V's accession to the throne in 1910, these were the first definitive stamps of his reign. They were in widespread use throughout the United Kingdom and the British Empire during a period that included World War I.
