This set of twelve stamps was issued to commemorate World Refugee Year, a United Nations initiative to raise awareness and funds for refugees worldwide. The designs feature a stylized family of refugees superimposed over a map of the world, with the World Refugee Year emblem. Each stamp in the series has a different color combination.

Issued in 1960, this set was part of a global philatelic effort by over 70 countries to support the UN's World Refugee Year, which ran from June 1959 to June 1960.
