This definitive stamp features a portrait of Emperor Haile Selassie I, the regent and later Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. The design shows the Emperor in profile, facing left, wearing a military uniform adorned with medals. This issue was part of a series released following the restoration of Ethiopian independence.

Issued in 1942, this stamp marks the period immediately following the liberation of Ethiopia from Italian occupation during World War II. The series re-established Ethiopian postal sovereignty and featured the restored monarch.
