This stamp features the iconic Egyptian Sphinx and Pyramids design, originally from an Egyptian definitive series. It is overprinted 'SUDAN' and re-denominated '5 MILLIEMES' for use in the newly established Anglo-Egyptian Sudan postal service.

Issued in 1897, these overprinted stamps marked the beginning of Sudan's postal history under Anglo-Egyptian rule, following the reconquest of the territory from Mahdist forces. They represent a transitional period in Sudanese administration.
