Egypt, Postage Due Stamp for use in Palestine

Egypt · 1918 · 5m

This is an Egyptian postage due stamp overprinted in black with 'PALESTINE' in English and Arabic for use by the Egyptian Expeditionary Forces (E.E.F.). The underlying design features the denomination '5 MILLIEMES' within an ornate frame. The overprint signifies the stamp's new designated area of use.

Issued during the British military administration of Palestine following its capture from the Ottoman Empire in World War I. These overprinted Egyptian stamps were a temporary measure until specific stamps for Palestine were produced.
